Bitcoin ABC developer shares the values and vision of the project

On August 1, 2017, Bitcoin Cash was born as a “big block” hard fork from Bitcoin. A new bitcoin node software, called Bitcoin ABC, became one of the main choices for users of this hard fork. Now that the dust has settled, Bitcoin ABC developer Amaury Séchet shares his thoughts about the project and where it goes.

Amaury Séchet is a network engineer by trade, has worked with European software startups, Japanese markets, and Internet adoption in Africa. He learned about Bitcoin in 2010 and liked Satoshi Nakamoto’s genius solution to the famous double spend problem which haunted every cryptocurrency until Bitcoin’s birth.

What made him start Bitcoin ABC? “I decided to take matter into my own hands when the scaling debate started degenerating”, he notes.   Séchet mentions the UASF campaign as the fuse which made several Big Block proponents realize that an imminent fork was a necessity.  Thus Séchet along with another developer called Freetrader started developing the Bitcoin ABC client.

Now that Bitcoin Cash is alive and kicking, Séchet stresses that success depends on people and it “will not come merely from good ideas or good coding.”

It is necessary to build solid organizations, he concludes.

Séchet goes on articulating the characteristics that teams need to accomplish great things. According to him, the following values are a yardstick to determine if someone is a good fit for  Bitcoin ABC:

  1. Visionary -  We see billions of people using Bitcoin, and we will help make it happen.
  2. Focus - We’re focused, tenacious, goal-oriented, and we get things done.
  3. Ruthless Prioritization  - We work on high impact projects, objectives, and tasks.
  4. Excellence - We’re constantly pushing ourselves and others to improve, and pushing the boundaries to find better solutions.
  5. Clear Personable Communication  -  We speak directly and honestly, and take the time to listen.
  6. Great Attitude - We are dedicated, open-minded, self-aware, enthusiastic, cooperative people with a good sense of humor.

As  Séchet points out, he will be working on improving his communication. He feels that he has been less than “personable.”
